Developmental milestones for children aged 12 month- 24 months

Congratulations on your child’s first year! As your child grows, it is important to monitor their development and ensure that they are meeting their milestones. Here are some typical development milestones for children between 12 months and 2 years old, along with some physiotherapy information that may be helpful for parents.

12-18 months:

  • Standing with support
  • Walking with support
  • Sitting down from standing with control
  • Cruising sideways on furniture

18-24 months:

  • Walking independently
  • Begins to run
  • Climbing stairs with assistance
  • Climbs into a chair
  • Squats to pick up a toy
  • Throwing and kicking a ball
Milestones 12 - 24months

It is important to encourage your child to be active and explore their environment. Allow them to crawl, walk and run, and provide opportunities for them to climb stairs and play with balls.

If you have any concerns about your child’s development or if you notice any delays, it is important to consult with your Paediatrician or Paediatric Physiotherapist. Early intervention can help address any issues and ensure that your child reaches their full potential.
