Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiology services at Total Physiotherapy is run by our Exercise Physiologists Laura Starc and Chloe Butler. They use evidence-based research to prescribe and implement exercise as a health intervention. When prescribed via the correct modalities and dosages, exercise physiology can be a powerful tool to improve the health status of many chronic conditions. Exercise Physiologists can also be an integral part of musculoskeletal rehabilitation.

Exercise physiology can provide support for a broad range of conditions and needs including:

  • Neurological disease
  • Musculoskeletal disease
  • Depressions and other mental health conditions
  • Cancer
  • Healthy ageing and falls prevention
  • Athletic performance and fitness

Whilst you are under the care of an Exercise Physiologist, they will discuss your goals, guide and support a structured exercise and lifestyle program, including education that allows you to take control of your activity and health. It is our aim to empower each individual to feel comfortable in managing their own lifestyle. Exercise Physiologists transition individuals into self-management through progressively loading the body, facilitating behaviour change and supporting your wellness for life.

If you are unsure of where you stand with your health and fitness or where to start, have an exercise related goal that you’re working on and want to make sure you’re on the right track or struggle with managing chronic injuries and conditions when trying to exercise come in for a one-hour Fitness Check assessment to evaluate your current health status and conduct fitness tests. Our Fitness Checks are designed to identify strengths and areas to work on taking into account your history, current capacity and goals to formulate an individualised action plan to start working towards a better you

Exercise Physiologists are chronic health experts and will consider all conditions that you may be managing, discuss your goals, then formulate an exercise program that will best support your individual needs. With a long-term vision to support you on your journey to a stronger, healthier self.

Exercise Physiologists can provide:

  • NDIS services: Use your NDIS funding to work with an exercise physiologist to improve your daily function, independence and well-being. You will be guided through an exercise program on a regular basis to work towards your NDIS goals. We have the capacity to provide home visits or to meet you at a local facility where needed. Speak to your NDIS coordinator or contact us today to arrange an initial consult.
  • Workcover, CTP and Life Insurance treatment: With the support of your doctor and approval of your insurer, exercise physiology plays a vital role in completing middle-end stage rehabilitation for musculoskeletal injuries as well as supporting your mental well-being. Speak to your doctor or insurer today about engaging exercise physiology.
  • Services under Medicare: If have a chronic or complex condition, speak to your doctor about a referral to one of our exercise physiologists under a Team Care Arrangement today. Those managing diabetes may be able to access 8 group sessions covered under Medicare.
  • Private health insurance: Check with your health fund to see if you can access subsidised one-on-one or group classes with an exercise physiologist today.
