Bone Fit and Strong Classes

Our Bone Fit and Strong classes are a structured weight and impact training program tailored to you. Recent research (the LIFTMOR trial, Watson et. al. 2017) has shown that training at high loads could safely and effectively improve bone strength and physical function in post-menopausal women.

The classes involve an initial assessment, followed by two one-on-one reviews to develop an understanding of your capacity, as well as guiding you through weightlifting technique and load management. After this, you will graduate into a twice weekly one-hour class (max 4 participants) supervised by our Exercise Physiologist. Your progress is monitored closely, with reassessments conducted monthly and your training adapted accordingly.

Your exercise program can be modified according to your training experience, injuries or conditions. Those that will benefit from the program include:

  • Low bone mineral density (osteopenia or osteoporosis) or previous fractures
  • Thin or obese body type
  • Poor balance and prone to falls
  • Seniors and the elderly
  • Cancer patients
  • Those with hormone imbalance or conditions (ie. diabetes, menopause, thyroid disorders)
  • Those taking corticosteroid medications (ie. asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory conditions)
  • Diet deficiency (calcium or Vitamin D)
