Postnatal Mat Classes

Physiotherapist led Pilates-based clinical exercise class designed to assist your body’s recovery after pregnancy and child birth. An ideal first step on your return to exercise following childbirth, the classes focus on.

  • Recovery of abdominal separation (diastasis rectus)
  • Improved core stability and pelvic floor strength
  • Increased mobility and flexibility
  • General strengthening for your body to meet the physical demands of caring for a baby
  • Safe return to exercise

Why join this class?

Despite common advice that you can return to any exercise at 6 weeks after giving birth, the truth is that many women will not be ready for that. The body, in particular the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, often need 3- 6 months to regain their pre-pregnancy strength. Exercising too intensely too early can lead to injury or pelvic floor symptoms such as leakage of urine or prolapse. This class helps you rebuild your strength from the core up as well as regaining flexibility.

There are 2 options with this class – Mums and Bubs where your baby can join in the fun or Mums only.

Classes are suitable for women from 6 weeks after the birth. You can view the timetable here link to timetable.
